During the hearing, resident Tabitha Inge asked whether the facility would offer scholarships to underprivileged children; Krenbrink and a follow-up speaker said a scholarship fund would be established through fundraising, community partnerships and a percentage of profits to assist families who cannot afford tuition. Another nearby resident raised concerns about potential expansion of commercial uses on adjacent vacant lots. City staff clarified this application is a specific use permit for that building only, not a rezoning of surrounding parcels.
A motion to approve the specific use permit passed by voice vote. Councilmembers asked the applicant to consider the neighborhood's safety concerns and the scholarship commitment when the business opens.
