City council denies rezoning request for 515 McNeil Street after lengthy public hearing
Summary
Palestine City Council voted to deny a request to rezone 515 McNeil Street from mixed residential to retail commercial after more than an hour of public testimony and council debate.
Palestine City Council voted to deny a request to change the official zoning map for 515 McNeil Street from mixed residential to retail commercial after a lengthy public hearing and a roll-call vote in favor of denial.
The request, presented by city planning staff, would have reclassified a property the applicant says has operated as a social club since 1969. Susan Davis, a city planner, told the council that notices were mailed per code and that staff had received more responses than notices; she said planning and zoning recommended approval by a 5-1 vote and that the city had received one in favor and 21 in opposition among returned mail.
