City staff propose $75,000 expansion to PEDC community development grant program

City officials on Monday said the city will expand its community development grant program after a recent budget amendment.
Director Christoff told the City Council work session that “this resolution is for an expansion of our community development grant program. Our board, subsequently city council approved a budget amendment adding an additional $75,000 to the program.”
The remark came during a presentation of a resolution to authorize related project notices for the Palestine Economic Development Corporation (PEDC), a Type B economic development sales tax corporation. Staff said the change is meant to allow the current fiscal-year program to award additional grant funds and to satisfy procedural notice requirements.
No formal vote was taken at the work session; staff said the item will follow the usual agenda and ordinance processes at the regular meeting. Council members present asked no substantive questions during the presentation.
The expansion is funded by an internal budget amendment; staff described the action as an administrative step to enable additional grants within the current fiscal year rather than a new tax or bond proposal.
Looking ahead, staff will present the resolution in the council’s regular session for formal action and to complete project-notice requirements.
