Public Works selects Bransford Machine for generator purchase; Smith County dumping fee rises to $50/ton

The Public Works committee recommended purchasing a generator from Bransford Machine of Lafayette and forwarded a related budget amendment to the full commission. Committee members said lead time drove the selection: Bransford’s delivery timeline was about 10 weeks compared with 36–40 weeks from other bidders.
"Bransford's only gonna be 10 weeks versus 36 to 40 with everyone else," Commissioner David Thomas said, identifying lead time as the critical factor in the committee’s recommendation.
The committee also reported that Smith County increased the county’s trash-dumping rate to $50 per ton. Committee members said the higher disposal cost will prompt review of county budgets and could require a rate adjustment or a budget transfer to cover the increase.
Public Works plans to meet again on April 8 to continue these discussions.
