Johnson County commissioners remand appeal of trustee’s denial of assistance and table matter pending further review

The Board of Johnson County Commissioners on March 24 remanded an appeal of a trustee’s denial of assistance back to the county trustee for further review and tabled the matter pending the trustee’s follow-up and any court outcomes.

Commissioner Walz introduced the agenda item and described the case as “difficult,” saying there was “very different information from both sides” and that the commissioner was not satisfied with the record. Walz said the board remanded the case “back to the trustee because there was some very different information from both sides, and I wasn't satisfied with what I heard from both sides.”

Walz noted the applicant had a scheduled court date the next day on an eviction notice and said they had asked in a written letter that the applicant reapply to the trustee with corrected numbers so the trustee could reconsider assistance before the court date. The commissioner said there had been no final decision other than remanding the matter to the trustee and recommended tabling the item until the trustee completed the review.

A motion to table the appeal was made and seconded; the board approved the motion by voice vote.
