Hampton City Schools honors Kilgore girls and Jones boys middle‑school volleyball champions

The Hampton City School Board recognized the Kilgore Gifted Center girls volleyball team and the Jones Magnet Middle School boys volleyball team as the 2024–25 division middle school champions during its March 19 meeting.
Ms. Pollard introduced the Kilgore girls’ team and the coaches, Paula Larson and Amy Gonzales, and presented each player and the coaches with a certificate and banner on behalf of the board. Coach Paula Larson thanked parents and students for their effort and noted the match was a close contest: "If you look at the scores, it was even. It was dead even," she said.
The board then recognized the Jones Magnet boys’ champions, coached by George Jacobs and Darlene Edwards, and presented a certificate and banner. Coach Jacobs, who identified himself as an alumnus, praised the students’ dedication and academics while wishing his departing eighth graders well.
The board also acknowledged Richard Fortune, the division’s director of athletics, for his work on middle school sports. The recognitions concluded with applause and photo opportunities.
