Council members discussed a resolution to award a contract to Goods Disposal for large-item pickup after staff said the company's proposal would cut costs roughly in half compared with an in-house plan.
A staff representative said Goods returned a best-and-final offer of $212,000 to perform large-item collection; the line item had earlier bids near $500,000 and staff had explored doing the service in-house. "They are offering to collect our large items now for $212,000," the presenter said, and council members noted that hiring or buying equipment and adding staff would have required substantially higher outlays.
A council member said the principal benefit is cost savings to the city and residents. Committee members voted to place the resolution awarding the contract on the April 1 legislative agenda for final action by the full council.
Why this matters: awarding the contract will determine how large-item collection is provided to the public and will affect the municipal waste budget.
