Terry Davis, who has served as Clerk of Council for six years, spoke and received tributes from Mayor Compton and council members on Jan. 13 as she announced her retirement and introduced Donna Fiore as her successor.
Council members and city staff praised Davis for modernizing council operations, moving agenda distribution online, and overseeing updates to council chambers. Mayor Compton and multiple council members thanked Davis for improving efficiency, reducing paper use, and for her institutional knowledge that made past ordinances and actions more searchable. Davis spoke briefly and delivered a prepared farewell, reflecting on the “warm and cheerful” welcome she received when joining the city and thanking colleagues by name.
Davis introduced Donna Fiore, who has served as assistant clerk for roughly six years. Fiore said she has been mentored by Davis, has municipal clerk certification from the Ohio Municipal Clerks Association, and is working toward a Master Municipal Clerk Certification and additional training. Council and staff welcomed Fiore and said they expect a smooth transition; several council members and staff offered personal tributes during the meeting.
City staff and council noted the personnel change will take effect with Davis’s retirement and that Fiore is prepared to step into the clerk role. No formal vote was required on the transition at the meeting; council members expressed appreciation and wished Davis well in retirement.
