Pasadena ISD library staff presented a district‑wide review of library services at the March board meeting, describing programs designed to support literacy, research skills, digital citizenship and student engagement across grade levels.
The presentation described programs including a Winter Read Challenge, Read Across America events, the long‑running Name That Book competition, a literacy leader award (a traveling trophy awarded by level each grading period), and the Aspiring Librarian Academy, which district staff said has encouraged several teachers to transition into librarian roles.
Staff highlighted partnerships with local organizations, including a local Chick‑fil‑A that provided incentives and campus visits tied to reading challenges, and referenced district author visits and the Tweens Read Book Festival hosted at Dobie High School, attended by more than 1,100 students from across the Houston area.
Library staff also described district digital citizenship instruction in English and Spanish and said librarians collaborate with teachers to align library work with TEKS and classroom needs. The presentation included student publishing projects (a culture and traditions writing project) and maker‑space activities to integrate STEAM and arts with library programs.
The board received the presentation for information; no action was taken.
