Polk County Commissioners on March 25 voted to let a seven‑day disaster declaration tied to a countywide burn ban expire and authorized sales of consumer fireworks during the San Jacinto Day sales period from April 16 through midnight April 20, 2025.
The action follows recommendations from the county fire marshal and the Texas A&M Forest Service that local weather and humidity conditions had improved since a recent period of low relative humidity and high winds. County emergency management staff had issued the seven‑day declaration on March 20 and briefed the court on current forecasts before the vote.
County staff told the court that if conditions deteriorate the court retains discretion under state law to restrict or prohibit fireworks sales for short periods. Commissioners asked staff to remain in communication with the Texas Division of Emergency Management and the Forest Service and to notify the court promptly if conditions change.
The court’s motions to allow the burn ban to expire and to authorize fireworks sales were approved by unanimous voice vote.
