Colfax County commission meeting roundup: burn ban announced; multiple budget adjustments, contracts and hires approved

The fire marshal announced an immediate countywide burn ban under Colfax County Ordinance 2006-1 (see separate item). County finance staff reported quarterly reporting work, reconciliation of grants and capital appropriations, and that some FY24 audit items remain outstanding. Staff also previewed the FY26 budget process and asked department heads to share inputs for a three-year trend analysis.
During the meeting the commission approved a multi-item budget-adjustment resolution to reclassify and increase funding across several county funds (including DWI grant funds, road fund changes, and payroll-related adjustments from the general fund). The commission also approved a series of contracts and actions: a Sidwell GIS agreement to publish a public web application; approval for Archuleta Construction LLC to perform Colfax County Event Center improvements; a letter authorizing FAA communications with village/consultants regarding Angel Fire Airport transfer matters; and a PowerDMS subscription for the sheriff’s office to allow online public complaint/reporting and internal investigations tracking.
The commission also approved lodgers-tax promotional funding requests (including a Raton/New Mexico True collaboration for the Wild Divide brand), increases to purchase orders using ARPA funds, submission of the annual Law Enforcement Protection Fund (LEPF) certification application, and indigent-care claims totaling $19,146.50 for February and March.
Personnel actions approved included filling a registered nurse vacancy at the detention center, creating an in-house sergeant position and five additional detention officer positions, advertising for two road department positions and a proposed wage adjustment for a CDL-qualified road employee. The commission authorized an RFP for financial audit services for the coming audit cycle.
