The La Porte Redevelopment Commission approved a contract with Jacob Hafner and Associates not to exceed $79,000 on March 26 to perform environmental sampling and related work at the Newport Landing site.
Commissioners said the work responds to additional information requested by the Indiana Department of Environmental Management (IDEM) to complete a site status letter for the former Dietrich property, a parcel partly tied to an agreement with Full Tilt. "The work is about $79,000 worth of work. The we did budget for cleanup," said Nick Minnick, Redevelopment staff, adding that if sampling results are favorable the new data could reduce overall cleanup costs.
Commissioners discussed that the scope of work was negotiated with IDEM to include only what the agency requested. The contract package did not appear in commission packets, and staff asked to have the agreement brought forward and signed before a departing attendee left the meeting.
JT McDermott made the motion to approve the contract, Damon Gassaway seconded, and the commission approved it on a 5-0 vote.
The approval directs staff to execute the agreement with Jacob Hafner and Associates and proceed with sampling and reporting to IDEM. No dollar-source breakdown or specific sampling schedule was provided during the meeting.
The commission moved on to other agenda items after the vote.
