Sheriff reports higher clearances, lower jail population and more traffic enforcement in February

Sheriff Holloway presented the Washington County Sheriff’s Office monthly report for February 2025 during the commissioners court meeting on Tuesday.
Holloway told the court the office posted a 91% clearance rate for group A offenses (11 offenses, two arrests) and a 93% clearance rate for group B offenses (58 offenses, 32 arrests). For the month the office reported a combined clearance rate of 93% for 69 offenses, 64 cleared with 34 arrests.
In the jail division the sheriff reported 102 bookings for the month and an average daily population that fell from 95 in January to 84 in February. He said the jail division had eight vacancies with four applicants under review and that the department was actively recruiting, including participation at a county hiring fair.
Other operational highlights included a rise in citations (from 111 to 144) and warnings (from 519 to 557), an increase in motor vehicle crashes (30 to 38) and more warrant arrests served (75 to 93). Holloway said department miles driven dropped by 5,634 miles compared with the prior month while incident responses rose by 701 (from 2,027 to 2,728), which he described as “doing more work driving less.”
Holloway introduced new hires and a promotion: Aaron Armitage, corrections officer; Jason Statham, transport deputy; and promotion of Eric Crosby to lieutenant in the jail division. He also summarized activity reports for the city of Burton and detailed jail bookings by agency and gender.
Commissioners praised the sheriff’s enforcement presence on county roads and noted positive public feedback. No formal action was taken on the report.
