Committee advances bill to codify school‑meal outreach and bar punitive measures for meal debt

The Senate Education Committee voted to give S.425 a favorable report after hearing staff explain a bill that would codify an existing proviso intended to increase access to free school meals and prohibit punitive actions against students for meal debt.

The bill would also require districts to ensure parents and guardians receive application instructions for free and reduced meals.
