Committee to recommend $1.5 million commitment for HVAC chiller projects at two district schools

The Keystone Central School District finance and facilities discussion ended with a consensus recommendation to earmark $1.5 million of committed capital funds for critical HVAC and chiller work, primarily at Central Mountain High School and Woodward.
Randy and Joanie (staff members) summarized two capital priorities identified by facilities: (1) HVAC/chiller replacements and repairs at Central Mountain High School and Woodward and (2) replacement of aging security systems (door swipe and camera systems). After weighing both options, committee members said the committee’s recommendation will be to commit the $1.5 million to HVAC needs.
Board members and staff discussed prior grant efforts and acknowledged that large capital grants can be competitive and often require matching funds. Staff recalled a prior application for a larger grant (roughly $13–$15 million for work in this building) that reached finalist status but ultimately was not awarded to the district. Committee members also noted the district has portable air-conditioning units and interim measures if some HVAC work is delayed.
Committee Chair Tim and others indicated the recommendation will be brought to the full board as a resolution at the April meeting. There was no roll-call vote at the committee meeting; the chair described the outcome as a consensus to recommend committing the funds.
