Council authorizes interlocal first-response EMS agreement

The La Conner Town Council approved an interlocal agreement that joins the town with county fire districts and neighboring jurisdictions in a coordinated first-response emergency medical services (EMS) arrangement.
Staff described the agreement as a standard multi-jurisdictional interlocal contract that ensures licensed aid services 24/7 and provides mutual indemnification for multi-agency EMS responses. "All the fire districts and all the communities enter into the same agreement. It's our turn to pass it," staff said.
Council voted to adopt the resolution and authorize execution of the interlocal EMS agreement. Council members were told that the agreement had been executed by other jurisdictions in the county and that approving the resolution aligns La Conner with the regional EMS operating framework.
The resolution passed by council vote; staff will file the executed agreement with the town records and proceed under the joint-operating terms.
