Scottsburg board approves Coombs Excavating bid for Moonglow/Grand Boulevard drainage work

The Scottsburg Board of Public Works and Safety on March 12 approved awarding a drainage contract to Coombs Excavating for work at the Moonglow and Grand Boulevard development, a staff presenter said.
City staff member Jill told the board the city solicited three quotes and received two bids and asked the board to approve Coombs Excavating’s bid of $19,590. "We received back 2 bids, and I'm here to request approval to approve Coombs Excavating for their bid price of 19,590," Jill said.
The work calls for replacing a ponding area at the entrance off Lendlow Road with a catch basin and a yard inlet that will connect under the road to the subdivision’s existing main drainage line, Jill said. She warned telecom lines run through the project area and "are in the ground," which will require coordination and some hand excavation near the lines.
Board members discussed the project’s purpose and timing and noted the work is intended to prevent recurring standing water at the first house in the subdivision and to facilitate continued build-out of the next phase. The board was told the project will be paid from the city’s stormwater budget for the year.
Tom Lewis made the motion to approve the contract; an Aaron (surname not specified) seconded, and the board approved the contract by voice vote.
The city did not provide an engineering specification or construction start date during the presentation; staff said coordination with the telecom provider will be required before excavation begins.
