Kern County continues Hageman/Jewettah zone-change hearing after notice error; next hearing set for April 29

The Kern County Board of Supervisors on March 25 continued a request from Air Star Properties LLC and DeWalt Corporation for a zone change at Hageman Road and Jewettah Avenue after county planning staff said corrected public notice is required.
Lorelei Oviatt, director of the Planning and Natural Resources Department, told the board staff had determined a clarification to the public-hearing notice was necessary and recommended the board not hear the item at today’s meeting because the board could not take action with the defective notice.
“We're recommending this item not be heard today since your board cannot take action with this failed public notice,” Oviatt said. Staff recommended continuing the matter to the April 29 afternoon hearing to allow redistribution of a revised notice. The board voted to follow staff’s recommendation; the clerk recorded the motion as approved, 4 ayes, 1 absent.
Because the notice was defective, the board did not accept public testimony as part of a formal hearing; staff and the applicant will return with a full presentation after corrected notice and proper hearing procedures.
