Board proclaims April 2025 as Adult Education Week; supervisors cite local programs and outcomes

The Kern County Board of Supervisors on March 25 proclaimed April 2025 as Adult Education Week in Kern County and thanked local adult education providers for workforce and family‑reunification programs. The proclamation was adopted by a 4-0 vote with Supervisor Couch absent.

Supervisor Cameron Parlier presented the proclamation and summarized recent outcomes reported by Bakersfield Adult School and partners. Parlier said the programs had recently produced several tangible results: three adults completed the naturalization process to become U.S. citizens; 254 adults received high school diplomas; 61 earned GED certificates; 617 individuals completed one or more career-technical education programs at Bakersfield Adult School and Lerdo Detention Facility; 75 adults in Lerdo completed parenting classes intended to support family reunification; and 11 graduated from a vocational nursing program.

Jody Loeffler, introduced at the meeting as director of education, spoke during the presentation and described partnerships that support the programs’ clinical placements and services, including vocational nursing clinical hours at Kern Medical Center and a recycling‑lives program run with the county’s Alliance for Business that serves people experiencing homelessness and long-term unemployment.
