Commissioners approve February tax collection and monthly financial reports

The Pitt County Board of Commissioners accepted routine finance reports at its March 24 meeting, including the February tax collection report and monthly financial statements for the general, solid waste and EMS funds.

Tax collection report Tax administrator Russell Heath reported the county’s combined real and personal property collection rate through Feb. 28 was 97.29% for the fiscal year to date, down from 97.85% a year earlier. Heath said the tax office will continue to pursue outstanding taxes using remedies available under the North Carolina General Statutes. The board approved the tax report. Monthly financial report Finance director Sam Crum (referred to in the meeting as Sam Prune) presented the February financials. At eight months into the fiscal year (66.7% of the year), the general fund had collected 75.9% of anticipated revenues and spent 61.8% of budgeted expenditures. Solid-waste collections were 84.6% with expenditures at 66.3%; EMS collections were 88.7% and expenditures 68.4%. The board approved the monthly financial report. Routine approvals Consent items and routine motions on the agenda were adopted by voice vote where noted; the board’s approval of these reports and items was recorded by the clerk. No additional budget amendments were adopted at the meeting beyond direction to staff related to the feasibility study noted elsewhere on the agenda.
