The Wethersfield Board of Education's Community and Public Relations Committee reported work on a formal communications plan and a one-page newsletter intended to boost public engagement and explain district priorities.
"So we drafted a plan for that, and we're still going through it," said Marjorie (committee member). Committee members said the draft plan lists goals such as increasing community engagement, improving public awareness of board meetings, strengthening school-staff-board engagement, reviewing the district website and social media, teacher and staff appreciation activities, and explaining the budget process and special district issues.
The committee finalized a draft of a monthly one-page newsletter that was distributed the week after the committee meeting. Members also discussed communications about the elementary school building project; two letters have been sent from the chair to update residents on project status, the committee said, and members suggested creating a frequently asked questions document (the consultant TSKP already posts an FAQ) that could also be made available via the board or district website.
The committee said it will continue to refine the communications plan and follow up with town leadership and the state delegation about district priorities.
No formal board action was taken; the report was informational and the committee will discuss edits at its next meeting.
