Mayor Kim Thomas told the Richmond Heights City Council on March 25 that the city has hired an IT employee who is updating systems and preparing a domain migration to ".gov" to shorten staff email addresses and align with government domains.
"We have hired our IT person, and he's been quite busy, updating our programs to enhance our systems," the mayor said. She said the city’s current email domain is a ".com" address and that the administration is "in a process of changing our domain name to reflect the connection of our government entity. So instead of it being .com, it's gonna be .gov."
The mayor said the city will receive support from the county and expects to apply for a county grant with an April deadline; she said the county is expected to cover the majority of migration costs but could not confirm exact amounts at the meeting.
City staff said the migration will be transparent to users: emails sent to the existing dot‑com addresses will "roll over" to the new dot‑gov addresses during the transition. The mayor said the administration will provide details to staff and to council as the migration proceeds.
