Trustees review draft LCAP Goal 3 actions; no vote scheduled until June

The Rescue Union School District Board of Trustees spent its study session reviewing proposed action items for Local Control and Accountability Plan (LCAP) Goal 3, hearing suggested wording changes and receiving staff input. No formal action was taken at the study session; trustees were asked to provide guidance so staff can include the edits in the LCAP package for the board’s two June votes.

The superintendent explained the proposed edits were drafted after leadership reviewed board focus goals and found actions missing for Goal 3. She said the redlined items in the packet reflect suggestions received during a February 25 study session and subsequent emails. “The intent this evening is really … not again not for us to take any action on this tonight, but just to let us know are we on the right path?” the superintendent said.

Trustees offered edits that ranged from grammar to phrasing intended to clarify intent. One trustee said, “I do feel informed, I do feel informed, with previous messaging and packet information,” indicating readiness to move forward if staff incorporated the suggested revisions. Trustees discussed short phrasing such as using “identified student and family needs” rather than longer formulations and highlighted the phrase “meaningful engagement opportunities” as an important addition suggested by staff member Michelle.

Board members framed the study-session approach as a way to refine the LCAP outside the June adoption timeline; one trustee said the gradual review process avoided last-minute, large-scale revisions that previously required rapid turnarounds. The superintendent and cabinet will incorporate the trustees’ input and bring a finalized LCAP, including Goal 3 actions, to the board for an initial and final vote in June.

The board noted its next regular meeting is scheduled for 04/08/2025.
