Little Miami board approves summer capital projects, awards roofing and asphalt contracts

The Little Miami Local School Board on March 20 approved competitively bid contracts for summer capital work, including asphalt milling and repaving at the high school and middle school and replacement of a flat roof at the high school building.
The board voted to accept the low bid from Cincinnati Asphalt of $122,505 to mill and repave about 8,000 square yards of pavement at the high school and to repair potholes and seal areas at the middle school. The board also approved a low bid from Maximum Roofing for a TPO (Vacu Seal) roof at a band/junior ROTC area behind the high school; the district cited a 20-year manufacturer warranty. The board recorded a separate contract of $11,007.86 with Saint Rita School for special-education services.
Superintendent Regina Morgan and facilities presenter Chad Conkel told the board these projects would be paid from the district's permanent improvement (PI) account, which Conkel said generates about $5,000,000 a year and is separate from the general fund. Conkel noted the high-school roof is roughly 25 years old and described the roofing material choice and warranty. He also said the district sought competitive bids (six for asphalt, 10 for roofing) and performed reference checks before recommending the lowest responsible bidders.
Board members raised no objections during the facilities presentation. The contracts were presented on the consent/finance portion of the agenda and approved by roll call.
The board will proceed with related site work this summer, and Conkel said additional landscaping and upgrades (new fence at the elementary playground, drinking-fountain upgrades, and improvements to the transportation building including cameras and interior office work) are planned as other PI-funded projects.
