Facilities and finance committee reports staff increases, solar RFP and referendum outreach

The Oshkosh Area School District’s facilities and finance committee reported to the full board on Oct. 23 several items that the committee said it will pursue or study further, including staffing changes for the food service program, a planned request for proposals for rooftop solar at Val Phillips, and continued community outreach on a possible facilities referendum.
Committee chair Dr. Herzog told the board the committee recommended adding two food service assistant manager positions because the district’s adoption of the Community Eligibility Provision has increased demand for student meals and placed additional cash-management duties on food-service managers. The committee said the new positions would also provide coverage when a manager is out and oversee hydroponic operations that supply lettuce to high-school cafeterias.
The committee reported it will issue a request for proposals from vendors to evaluate solar panels on the roof of Val Phillips (referred to in documents as Veil Phillips). The committee said vendor responses will inform costs and feasibility.
Committee members discussed middle-school athletics and noted that if middle-school consolidation reduces the number of district middle schools, students may need to compete out of district and that the committee will continue to study associated costs and logistics.
On community outreach, the committee said it will continue posting community questions and comments about the facilities plan on the district website and that the current meetings are “listening and feedback” sessions, not final public-information sessions. The committee emphasized no final referendum decision has been made.
Finally, the committee reported on benefits and clinic operations. The discussion included a possible change in third-party administrator for benefits, designed to create a single point of contact for benefit questions, and an update that the district’s clinic (referred to as the 3 Waves clinic) will remain at its current location, according to Mr. Neehan.
The committee’s next meeting is scheduled for Nov. 14 at 7:30 a.m., the board was told.
