Highway staff said negotiations with the landowner (Stibby family referenced in the packet) led to an agreed price of $8,000 for the half-acre needed for the septic and right-of-way adjustments. Committee members noted that the county previously assessed the seller’s price and that state statute could permit a property owner to seek additional payment for two years if a lower valuation is accepted; staff said the county had budgeted the funds and planned to complete the septic work, then convey the land and septic improvements to Ash Creek Church under the agreement.
The committee voted in favor of forwarding the purchase to the full county board for final approval and to cut the check at the December county board meeting. Highway Commissioner Josh Elder and other staff said the expense and land purchase were anticipated and budgeted.
