Board authorizes land-exchange talks, approves building contracts and personnel actions

The Board of Education for the Green Bay Area Public School District on Feb. 5 authorized district staff to enter negotiations with the City of Green Bay on a proposed land-exchange agreement and approved several construction contracts and personnel items during a brief special meeting held virtually.

The land-exchange authorization directs district staff to negotiate terms with the City of Green Bay; the motion was approved unanimously by the seven board members present. Board member Crossan voted aye, followed by Gerlach, Mills, Lyerly, McCoy, Becker and Lee (thumbs-up), and the chair recorded the motion as carried.

Board members also voted to award three construction bids: Luke's Incorporated will replace windows at Howell Elementary Community School for $377,000 and at Sullivan Elementary School for $976,820; Goodson Company was awarded a $445,000 contract to supply bleachers at Southwest High School. Each contract was approved unanimously in separate motions.

Board members commented briefly on the bleacher purchase, noting that new bleachers installed at East High School drew positive reaction and that similar replacements would improve the appearance and function of the Southwest High gym.

In routine personnel actions, the board approved a slate of staff resignations, retirements and new employments “as presented.” Those personnel items were moved, seconded and approved by recorded ayes from board members Crossan, Gerlach, Mills, Lyerly, McCoy, Becker and Lee.
