The Mobile City Council called a public hearing to consider vacating a strip of city right-of-way on Fournelle Lane, staff said during the March 25 pre-meeting.
City staff explained an old right-of-way runs between a former Royal Knight restaurant building and an adjacent warehouse on Highway 90. The warehouse owner has purchased the former restaurant parcel and asked the city to vacate the intervening strip of land so the two parcels can be combined. Staff said the vacation would also provide the city better access to a large ditch behind the parcels, improving the city’s ability to maintain drainage infrastructure for neighbors on the north side of the ditch.
Mister Amberger described the site and said combining the parcels and vacating the strip would be “a win-win for everybody” because the city would obtain access to the ditch while the property owner could use the land functionally for the warehouse property. The council placed the vacation on the agenda for public hearing and later listed the formal vacation item (agenda item 47517) on the consent/resolution list.
No formal vote to vacate the right-of-way was recorded during the pre-meeting; the public hearing will provide an opportunity for additional testimony before final council action.
