Commissioners accept most salary-study recommendations, deny Board of Education increase

Garrett County commissioners voted to accept recommendations from the county Salary Study Commission for several appointed boards while withholding an increase sought by the Garrett County Board of Education.
The Salary Study Commission recommended pay increases for the Garrett County Board of Election Supervisors — raising the president's annual stipend from $3,300 to $3,800 and members from $3,000 to $3,500 — and for Liquor Control Board members, from $2,500 to $3,000. The commission recommended no increases for the county judges of the Orphans' Court.
The commission also proposed increases for the Garrett County Board of Education: raising the chairman's pay from $5,000 to $5,700 and board members from $5,000 to $5,300. Commissioners discussed the Board of Education request and the panel's prior increase four years earlier. Commissioner Titchenell objected to another increase for the board; Commissioner Savage said he agreed with Titchenell. The Board of Education request was not accepted.
County commissioners noted that none of the county commissioners requested a salary increase; the board's annual salary will remain $32,500. The board moved to accept the Salary Study Commission's recommendations for all boards except the Board of Education; the motion carried.
