An owner representative briefed the Bedford County Finance Committee on progress at school and community facility construction projects and related procurement activity.
Work at Cascade includes interior painting and roofing, tile installation scheduled for Monday, plumbing fixtures expected at the end of next week, and sewer installation taken while students were out of school. The soccer-field concession concrete form is in place, plumbing is being installed and a slab pour is expected this week, and a community concession building is roofed with brick deliveries scheduled for the following week.
The representative said a demo of older concession and bathroom facilities will proceed once the replacement building nears completion. Work at a Thomas facility was delayed about a month awaiting glass and aluminum for windows. Desks and furniture have been delivered and installed in finished rooms, and the county will change alarm systems to new equipment; the representative said substantial completion is expected after the alarm inspection.
Bid activity includes ag-building bids with a return date in late March and a bid solicitation published for Health Department HVAC and roof work. The representative also noted that all communications inspections for a recently completed space passed last week.
On a separate matter, the representative said a contractor (Smyrna Ready Mix) had been added as a defendant in a court matter related to a Cascade High School floor; the representative expects a court date or update later in March or April after attorney communications.
Project master planning work was clarified: master plans for Cascade Community and Liberty outline prospective layouts and do not represent final project commitments; the school board is working on a 5- and 10-year plan but had not finalized it.
Committee members asked questions about funding and schedule; the representative said some items remain contingent on bids and procurement timelines.
