Commissioners approve indefinite-quantity medical testing agreements and clarify county safety program authority

The Santa Fe County Board of County Commissioners on March 25 approved indefinite-quantity agreements with Concentra Medical Centers and DSI Medical to provide pre-employment medical examinations and drug and alcohol testing services. Valerie Agahi of the county’s Human Resources Risk Management Division told commissioners the contracts cover pre-employment physicals, post-accident testing, random testing and reasonable-suspicion testing for safety-sensitive positions.
Valerie Agahi reported the county spent $76,717.73 for such services last year; the agreements are structured as indefinite-quantity contracts so the county can order services as hiring needs change. Commissioner Adam Johnson and others asked about budgeting and asked whether a not-to-exceed cap should be included; HR staff said spending is tracked and varies with hiring volumes (notably for firefighters, who require more extensive exams).
The board also adopted a resolution amending a prior resolution (1992-56) to authorize the county manager to review, approve and adopt safety programs and to specify that the human resources and risk management director (or designee) will organize the safety-management program and chair the safety policy committee. Risk Management Director Melinda Jackel presented the proposal; commissioners approved the resolution unanimously.
