Representatives from the Tennessee Valley Authority and partners presented STEM grant awards to five Madison City elementary schools at the Madison City Board of Education meeting.
Ellen Reed, government relations specialist for TVA, said the TVA program awarded grants to 58 schools across North Alabama this year totaling more than $245,000. Reed and partners from Huntsville Utilities and BVI presented STEM grants to five Madison City schools for classroom STEM equipment.
Madison City named the five recipients and the intended purchases: Columbia Elementary (Julie Vandiver) and multiple other elementary schools applied for 3D printers approved by district technology; other recipients named in the meeting were Heritage Elementary (Sarah Stewart), Madison Elementary (Clarissa Stager), Mill Creek Elementary (Carla Lee McKee) and Rainbow Elementary (Megan Hockey). Administrators said the 3D printers are expected to arrive this spring and be deployed in classrooms.
TVA's representative thanked local partners and U.S. partners including Huntsville Utilities and BVI, and the district thanked teachers for writing grants and finding instructional uses for the equipment.
The presentations included a group photo and were acknowledged by the superintendent and board members as part of the district's ongoing STEM programming.
Quotes in context: "This year we had 58 schools across North Alabama receive a grant from this program, a total of over $245,000," Ellen Reed said. "We're very excited to present STEM grants to 5 Madison City Schools this evening."
