The vote took place after committee members debated language about a prior foundation offer to fund a recruiter. The committee removed the sentence that read, in effect, “we understand in the past the foundation has offered multiple times to fund a recruiter for our campus, but the offer was declined,” because members said they lacked documentation to support that claim.
Committee chair Linda (name per transcript) brought the item to the floor and Barb Boyse moved to send the letter. Sean Murphy Lopez seconded the motion. During discussion, Bob Frank asked whether the letter should reference a foundation offer to match $100,000 and cover $20,000 in insurance; committee members said the letter asks the foundation to “consider” offering up to $100,000 a year for capital projects but does not assert that the foundation has already committed the $20,000 insurance payment.
The letter will include three attachments: documentation related to registration problems that students have experienced, a county resolution from the education committee, and a report assembled by the referendum committee. Committee members agreed the attachments would accompany the letter when it is emailed and that a portion of the material would be sent by direct mail to foundation board members.
The committee voted to remove the unverified recruiter sentence and then voted to send the letter as amended. The chair recorded the outcome as unanimous; the committee stated a quorum of five members was present for the votes.
The committee indicated it will send the letter promptly; members noted the foundation’s board meets next Tuesday, the 13th, and that Roseanne Noor is the foundation’s new office contact.
Less-critical meeting housekeeping followed: the committee set its next full meeting for Monday at 3:00 p.m. to accommodate a UW System visit.
