Washington County’s executive committee approved a revision to county code clarifying that the county board chair may sign documents in the county executive’s absence, formalizing a process county staff said had occurred informally when timing required.
County staff explained the change will reduce administrative delay when the county executive is unavailable; the change defines what constitutes executive absence and sets a clear process for signature authority. Committee members said the body still retains its approval authority and that the change affects only processing, not substantive board approvals.
The committee approved the code amendment by voice vote. County staff said the change will be implemented through the county attorney’s office and the clerk’s office to ensure contracts are processed in a timely manner.
