Committee approves single-acre rezoning to separate farmhouse from agricultural land

The Richland County committee approved a rezoning petition to separate a farmhouse and its immediate yard from surrounding agricultural acreage and rezone the house site at its November meeting.

County staff described the request as a separation of the existing farmhouse from the remainder of the agricultural tract. The staff summary said the parcel contains an existing farmhouse and that the owner proposes to detach the house lot from the agricultural acreage. A committee member asked whether the property has enough room for a replacement septic system if needed; staff said there were no concerns.

The motion to approve was made and seconded during the zoning petitions portion of the meeting. Committee members noted that the town of Buena Vista had indicated approval of the rezoning request. The motion passed by voice vote; the transcript records the action as "approved." The committee did not record an ordinance number or additional conditions in the meeting discussion.

The committee chair thanked the applicant for coming to the meeting; staff indicated the change will be recorded as a zoning action in county records.
