Interim administrator recommends updating county strategic plan with regional planning commission help

Interim Administrator Derek said the county has completed much of its prior strategic plan and recommended engaging the Southwest Regional Planning Commission to update the plan after a permanent administrator is in place.
Derek (Interim Administrator) told the committee March 13 that much of the county’s previous strategic plan has been accomplished and recommended enlisting the Southwest Regional Planning Commission to help update the plan once a permanent administrator is in place.
Derek said the existing plan is roughly three-quarters complete and that engaging the regional planning commission would be appropriate because of the commission’s familiarity with southwestern Wisconsin. He suggested scheduling the update as an April project once staffing is clearer, noting more time-sensitive projects now take priority. He said he will connect the regional planner (Troy) with the incoming administrator when that person is announced.
Committee members agreed that a refreshed strategic plan could set a multi-year direction for the county but also acknowledged that major staffing and higher-priority projects mean the work should wait until later this spring.
No formal action was taken; the item was an information update and a direction for staff to coordinate the next steps once the administrator position is filled.
