Committee recommends two Town of Wausau rezones to county board

The Environmental Resources Committee reviewed and recommended approval of two zoning actions submitted by the Town of Wausau.
Staff member Chad explained that the first item was a town-initiated rezone of a 4.283-acre parcel from commercial/light manufacturing to an agricultural district. The town held its own public hearing and forwarded the rezone request to the county as required by state statute. A committee member asked why the county does not hold a separate hearing; staff replied that the town held the required public hearing and the county’s role is the final sign-off.
Supervisor Seefeldt moved to recommend approval based on staff information; Supervisor Schoenborn seconded. The committee approved the recommendation by voice vote.
The committee then considered a town ordinance change to add a provision for keeping fowl in certain town zoning districts (R1-20 and AT1-40). Chad confirmed the town had conducted the public hearing. Supervisor Seefeldt moved to recommend approval; Supervisor Drabek seconded, and the motion carried by voice vote.
Both items will be forwarded to the Marathon County Board for final action.
