The Human Resources, Finance and Property Committee approved the March 12 meeting minutes and voted to disallow a claim filed by county employee Megan Graff, following the recommendation of the county’s insurance carrier.
Minutes: Supervisor Lemmer moved to approve the March 12 minutes; Supervisor Poole seconded. The motion carried by voice vote.
Claim disallowance: WEMIC (the county’s insurance carrier) recommended disallowing a claim filed by Megan Graff after its investigation concluded the plow’s strobes, plow lights and left-turn signal were activated and that the claimant was following too closely while attempting to pass the plow. The transcript records the staff summary referencing a statute (reported in the transcript as “statute 3 46 9 15”) and describing a following-distance requirement in a 45-mph zone; the committee did not provide an independent statutory citation during the meeting. Chair Gibbs moved to disallow the claim consistent with the insurance carrier’s recommendation; Supervisor Lemmer seconded and the motion carried by voice vote.
Two other claims (Joseph Sisco and Dave Brown, as named in the packet) were withdrawn from the agenda and postponed to the next meeting because the county had not yet received formal disallowance requests from the insurance carrier.
What’s next: the disallowance for Megan Graff will be processed consistent with the committee’s vote and the two postponed claims will be returned to the committee agenda once formal documentation is received from the insurance carrier.
