Council discusses updating Kingston’s online city code to reflect recent legislation

At a special Laws and Rules meeting March 3, Kingston Common Council members discussed inaccuracies in the city’s online code and agreed the matter requires a fuller review at a subsequent meeting.
A council member said there are "a lot of legislative actions that the council has taken that are not accurately reflected" on the city code website and suggested a longer discussion to ensure legislation is represented correctly. The council member said that, despite omissions in the online code, enacted laws remain in force.
The presiding council member noted two recurring issues: locating older resolutions that list only one set of entries and ensuring that when the council passes ordinances or resolutions the code is updated so information appears correctly in section 360 of the code (transcript phrasing: "code 3 60"). The staff member said some items will require a full-length meeting and follow-up by staff to correct online entries.
The council did not take formal action at this meeting on specific code amendments; members agreed the issue should come back for dedicated discussion. The presiding council member adjourned the special meeting at about 6:15 p.m.
