Kingston council moves to appoint commissioners of deeds for two-year term

The Kingston Common Council’s special Laws and Rules meeting on March 3 approved a resolution appointing commissioners of deeds for a two-year term running March 3, 2025, to March 2, 2027.

Presiding council member said the copy posted with the agenda showed the dates July 1, 2024, to June 30, 2026, but councilors were making a revision to set the appointments for March 3, 2025, through March 2, 2027. The resolution, the presiding council member said, limits use of the appointments to the city of Kingston.

The staff member told the council she had sent departmental lists to department heads to remove former employees and add current staff; she said three names had been added so far and she was waiting to hear back from two departments. "I'm still waiting for a few departments to come back with that," the staff member said. She later confirmed she would email an updated list before the next meeting.

A council member moved the measure and another council member seconded. The presiding council member called for a voice vote; members present responded "Aye." The transcript records a voice vote in favor but does not list a roll-call tally.

The resolution text on the meeting file states the appointments will include current employees and title holders and references a prior list (Resolution 118 of 02/2022) as a point of comparison. The resolution language and the attached list were placed on the committee report form, according to the presiding council member.

The council did not identify individual appointees on the record at this meeting; the staff member said the finalized list of names would be circulated to council members before the next meeting.
