City staff outline progress on sewer, ADA ramps and waterfront design projects

The Prospect Street sewer project is in winter shutdown and will restart with expected substantial completion in July 2025; it replaces sewer mains but does not increase capacity, and includes sidewalks and curb ramps. Uptown DMI projects and ADA curb ramps in front of the Governor Clinton area are largely complete; the first segment is expected to finish in spring 2025. Staff said the Safe and Accessible Flatbush–Fox Avenue project received remaining funding from U.S. Senator Chuck Schumer and will include sidewalks and pavement improvements.
Staff noted the Cornell intersection design option under consideration would terminate the Cornell–Foxhall connection and redirect traffic to South Manor; they said the change is likely to draw public comment during spring participation. The waterfront transportation project has secured funding for consultant selection in 2025, with construction tentatively planned for 2027–2028.
Committee members discussed the city's backlog of sidewalks (approximately 80 miles citywide) and the need to prioritize ADA compliance; staff said more design details will be available in April and that quarterly updates will continue.
