MCCSC announces District 7 vacancy and opens Redistricting Study Commission applications

Superintendent Dr. Winston reported March 25 that Brandon Shurer has resigned from the Board of School Trustees, creating a vacancy in District 7. Winston thanked Shurer for nearly six years of service, including terms as vice president in 2021 and president in 2022 and part of 2023, and noted his role during passage of the 2021–25 strategic plan and the 2022 and 2023 referenda.
Winston said, citing Indiana Code 20‑20‑3‑4‑30(d)(2), the board has 30 days to fill the vacated position. Residents of District 7 who are interested in serving on the board were directed to the MCCSC website and to contact Karen Butcher at (812) 330‑7700 to confirm residency and submit an application. Applications must be received by Thursday, March 27 by 5 p.m., Winston said.
Winston also announced that the Redistricting Study Commission will begin meetings on April 2, with three meetings scheduled in April and two in May and additional meetings as needed. Community members — including parents, district employees and students — may apply to serve on the commission by completing the interest form by March 28. Winston said the district had already received more than 60 expressions of interest.
