Committee advances change to oil and gas commission appointment qualifications

Representative Judy Boyle, R.-Dist. 9, told the committee the position has three current requirements — knowledge in oil and gas matters, a college degree in geosciences or engineering and at least five years' experience in the oil and gas industry — and that the bill would reduce those requirements so the governor can more readily find a qualified appointee. "We're finding that it's difficult to find a person for this one position because there's three requirements," Boyle said.
Vice Chairman Shepherd moved the committee recommendation and the committee approved the bill by voice vote; the chair recorded that the ayes had it and the measure will be carried to the floor by the bill sponsors.
The committee did not discuss changes to commission authority or funding; the bill as presented focuses on appointment qualifications for a single seat.
