Committee hears update on $150,000 state veterans mental health grant and extension through September

Neely, staff member, told the Healthy New Reserves Committee the county received roughly $150,000 from the state Veterans Affairs department to provide mental health services for veterans and obtained an extension to spend remaining funds through the end of September.
Neely said the grant funded marketing via Epic Creative, community care certification to bill insurance and subsidized care for veterans with high copays or no ability to pay. The clinic currently serves 16 veterans, and Neely said 14 of those are receiving grant funding for their services.
Neely said the county requested a shift in how some funds are used and was permitted to reallocate part of the award. As an example of a nontraditional therapeutic approach, staff plan to sponsor two Next 18 camps this summer at the county golf course; Next 18 is described in the transcript as a national organization that runs golf camps for veterans and law enforcement focused on mental wellness. Epic Creative will run limited additional marketing to maintain awareness of the service.
No formal committee action was recorded; staff said they will continue program delivery under the extended grant schedule and provide updates to the committee.
