Committee advances bill to require agricultural producer on winter feeding advisory committees

The House Resources and Conservation Committee voted to send Senate Bill 1011 to the floor with a “do pass” recommendation after Representative Josh Wheeler said the bill would strengthen the effectiveness of Idaho’s winter feeding advisory committees.
The bill, Wheeler told the committee, “ensures that at least 1 member of each district committee is an agricultural producer” and “clarifies that the committee members shall be residents of the district that the committee is dealing with.” The sponsor said the changes are intended to “enhance the collaboration between wildlife management and the agricultural community.”
Wheeler, Republican of District 35, said the Farm Bureau had worked with him on the bill. Committee members had no further questions and one person signed up to testify but declined to speak. Representative Stephanie Mickelson moved to send the bill to the House floor with a due-pass recommendation; the committee approved the motion by voice vote.
