Resident warns left-turn design on Highway 41 at Highway 17 could cause backups

The speaker warned the current design could create a bottleneck where two lanes become one: "when you make the left turn on the Porsche 8 blocked 1, you go from 2 lanes 2 lanes to 1 lane." They said staff had told them the current design would work but warned that vehicles parking along the roadway could cause traffic to back up.
The commenter suggested the Town of Mount Pleasant might provide funding, noting the town had planned the connecting road "long before you even started working on 41," and referenced the council of governments as a possible source of prior allocations for improvements at Portia Bluff and Highway 17.
The speaker described the change as a "minor change" that would nevertheless make a "big improvement" and argued that the county should make the sacrifice now to avoid recurring problems at the intersection.
