Effingham High wrestlers recognized for record season; Caden Stewart singled out for state tournament milestone

The Effingham CUSD 40 School Board recognized the Buckingham wrestlers and coaching staff at Tuesday’s meeting, congratulating the team for a season that set a school record for dual-team wins and produced multiple individual milestones.
Jeremy Patton, assistant coach, introduced the athletes and coaches and described the discipline wrestling requires. Patton said the team “set the score record this year for dual team wins” and noted the program’s growth in the youth ranks after the current coaching group took over.
Coaches and the board highlighted several individual accomplishments. The coaches said three wrestlers—Caden Stewart, Baker Moon and Jeremiah Lorton—recorded 30 or more wins this season. The coaches reported that Caden Stewart set the school record for career wins at Effingham High and was one of a handful of Effingham wrestlers to qualify for the state tournament; they said he was the first from the school to win a match at that level. Coaches also noted multiple conference recognitions and local athlete-of-the-month honors.
Board members applauded the team and invited the wrestlers and coaches to join members for photographs and a handshake line after the presentation.
