The Lyon County School District Board of Trustees approved quotes and a contract with Audio Enhancement to install an integrated audio-alert and classroom-recording system at Dayton High School, Burnley (Fernley) High School and East Valley Elementary School. District staff said the system lets a teacher activate an immediate alert from anywhere on campus while initiating local classroom camera recordings and connecting directly with first responders.
The district’s director of operations and IT staff described a plan to install systems over the summer so the system would be ready by the first day of school. IT staff said they planned to perform much of the elementary-school installation in-house to reduce costs and anticipated modest contingencies for wiring and equipment adjustments. The approved not-to-exceed contract amount presented to the board was $1,205,361.88; trustees voted unanimously to approve the authorization.
Trustees praised the system’s features and the district’s plan to train staff and use in-house labor where feasible to manage costs. The board asked district technology leaders to track contingency usage and confirm a firm schedule to have systems operational by the start of the school year.
Staff noted the purchase is part of a multi-year rotation to install the audio-enhancement safe systems schoolwide and that training requests to the vendor and staff travel were included in prior workshop discussion.
