Committee agrees to seek annual voucher participation data; bill rolled to next year’s calendar

Representative McKenzie said she had discussed the request with OREA and that OREA’s initial concern was whether the Department of Education currently collects the information. McKenzie summarized the bill as permissive: if the Department of Education provides the data, OREA would prepare a report. She said she wanted “one package” that gives legislators an annual look at voucher usage statewide rather than ad hoc requests.
Representative Snyder moved to roll the bill to next year’s first calendar so agencies and staff could prepare; the motion carried without recorded objection. The committee chair noted that the information can be requested without legislation but agreed to the scheduling change so members could coordinate with OREA and the Department of Education.
