Council approves upgrade to courthouse/body scanner with AI detection capability

County presenters described the upgrade as the first substantive update since February 2018 and said the new software will flag anomalies on the scanner image to guide officers’ inspections. Presenters noted vendors described maintenance and upgrade paths and said the chosen upgrade should be sufficient for several years; a maintenance agreement will also be part of procurement.
Council members asked about upgrade cadence and whether buying a whole new scanner would be preferable; staff said vendor discussions indicated the upgrade plus a maintenance agreement would be stable for the near term.
A motion to appropriate $45,400 to other equipment for the updated body scanner and the AI-recognition module passed on roll call.
